peer reviewedSince 1960 marked changes have affected peripheral distribution in Europe.These modifications are due to the increase of new formulas such as superettes, supermarkets, food discount stores, hypermarkets, large specialised stores and shopping centres. In this article, we have tried to set out the main characteristics of these shops and compare their development in each country.
