Analysis of Teacher Evaluation System in Taiwan

[[abstract]]The purpose of this paper is to explore the development of teacher evaluation system and program in Taiwan from the aspects of social and cultural context, historical development, current system and programs, the important issues and suggestions for the future. This study comprehensively analyzed the documents related to teacher evaluation and interviewed the representatives of stakeholders to understand the development and problems of the teacher evaluation system. This study raised and discussed the following issues related to teacher evaluation system: conforming the orientation of teacher evaluation, clarifying the concept of teacher evaluation, decreasing teachers’doubt about the evaluation system, developing different evaluation standards for teachers with different teaching experiences, increasing the credibility of peer evaluation, improving the profession of school-based evaluation, and developing the evaluation standards based on the local context.
