Research of Webbook and Accessible Web Editor System

[[abstract]]Owing to the popularity and development of World Wide Web, the information on Web pages have become the major source of information for many people. However, the person with visual impairments can not read web pages like ordinary people. They have to use Braille system or vocal reading to get information from outside world. In order to let the person with visual impairments can access the web pages by their own without the help of others, we should develop appropriate tool for them. In this project, we propose to develop a web book model and to design a universal web editing system. Up to date, we can find Chinese language reading system for pure text data. However, there may contain images, graphics, tables, frames or hyperlinks in a web page. The traditional Chinese language reading system is not capable to handle the data with such complicated format as in web pages. Therefore, we plan to develop a tool to transform the traditional HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) web pages to XML (eXtensible Markup Language) web pages, then we add the accessible mechanisms for people with visual impairments in the new formatted web pages. Then we extend our tool into a universal web reading and learning system. This project is one year project, we develop a web page transformation tool to combine the vocal modular to form a universal web reading system.
