[[alternative]]The Development of objectives and strategies of environment education for community women in Taiwan: a Delphi study

[[abstract]]The purpose of this study was to establish a set of objectives and strategies of environmental education for the community women in Taiwan. This research adopted Delphi technique to collect different views from a panel of 28 experts and build a consensus on this theme. This panel consists of environmental educators, women educators, community educators, and experienced women in environmental protection. Thirty-seven objectives were generated and categorized according to awareness, knowledge, attitude, skill, and participation. These objectives are listed below. 1.Awareness: Help women aware their living environment and their roles in solving the environmental problems. 2.Knowledge: Help women gain basic ecological concepts, increase knowledge of pollution, conservation, and environmrnyal esthetic as well as inform them about action channels and resources. 3.attitude: Help women build harmonious relationship with nature,love and appreciate the environment.Help them reflect their life style, and increase their commitment to take action. 4.Skill: Help women gain skill of being green consumers, learn skills of value clarification, communication, planning, critical thinking and take political actions. 5. Participation: Help women participate in activities for environmental protection, play appropriate and acyive roles at different levels according to their ability and personality. Thenty-two environmental education strategies are summarized into three parts below: 1.Action channels: Educators may apply existing groups in community, personal relationship,mass media, and schools,to educate community women. Educators can win assistance from NGO communicate with other communities through network. 2.Approaches:Educators may demonstrate simple life style, visit model communities, hold activities, ex, field trips, recycling programs and speeches, ab well as distribute printed material. 3.Suggestion: Educators should help women gain the feeling of growth and reinforce their confident as well as esteem in participating environmental actions.Educators may select issues concerned by women in process of education and recognizing wwomen's personality like gentle, love, careful and sympathy. The objectives and strategies for community women partially met the spirit of Ecofeminism, promoting care about the nature and women, respect pluralistic and difference in the educational process.
