[[alternative]]The study of the relationship among transformational and transactional leadership, school culture and school effectiveness in junior high schools in Taiwan

[[abstract]]The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship among principals' transformational and transactional leadership, school culture and school effectiveness in junior high schools in Taiwan. This study employed literature review, questionnaire surveys and interviews. Data were collected from the teachers with questionnaire surveys, from three principals with interviews. The population of the study was the junior high school teachers in Taiwan area. The sample consisted of 1248 high school teachers. The totla usable number of questionnaires returned was 875, a return rate of 70.11%. Data were analyzed using the method of descriptive and inferential ststistics, including mena and standard deviation, t-test, Pearson's product-moment correlation, ANOVA, MANOVA, and stepwise multiple regression. The results of this study were as follows: 1.Transformational and transactional leadership can be applied to junior high schools in Taiwan. 2.At present, the state of principals' transformational leadership, transactional leadership, school culture, and school effectiveness is acceptable. 3.There were significant differences among transformational leadership, transactional leadership, school culture, and school effectiveness based on different background variables. 4.There were significant relationships among transformational and transactional leadership, school culture, and school effectiveness. 5.There was not any interaction between transformational and transactional leadership, and school culture. 6.Transformational leadership, and school culture were significant predictors of school effectiveness. Transactional leadership was significant predictors of four of seven school effectiveness dimensions. According to the results of this study, the researcher tried to make some suggestions for educational authorities, school principals, school teachers and the future study.
