[[alternative]]Insert the project-based science in elementary school science teaching-two cases study

[[abstract]]The main purpose of this study is to apply the Project-Based Science (PBS) learning in science teaching and science fair projects of elementary school students, based on Krajcik et al. (1999). The study is to investigate the reflection of students and the influence of PBS in students’ learning motivation and science conceptions. The subjects in this study are elementary school students. Case 1 includes four first grade students and case 2 includes 43 sixth grade students. In case 1, data collected are in the form of interview, classroom observation by teacher and research notes of students. The purpose is to analyze the reflection and achievement of students in driving questions, investigation, learning community and using technology. Case 2 is to investigate the learning motivation and science learning achievement difference and understand the implementation and affections of students after the implementation of PBS. The major findings of this study are as follows: (1)In case 1:First grade students can carry out PBS but they need the help from the teacher and parents. In the process of PBS, the students show great motivation in investigation and apply the inquiry skill to the series of driving question. (2) In case 2:In the science learning motivation show that implementation of PBS can promote the learning motivation in “self-efficacy” and “inner motivation” dimensions. The result of science learning achievement test show that implementation of PBS in case promotes the science achievement but not at a significant level.
