台灣地區老年人休閒活動之研究－以1996年台灣老年人休閒活動調查結果作分析

[[abstract]]The extension of human life is the trend of the world. Nowadays, the elderly values the importance of exercise as well as health maintenance. The elderly also benefits from the retirement system and all kinds of welfare and benefits sponsored by the government. The social welfare system in the nation has provided financial support to the elderly. Thus, the further development and the needs of the elderly leisure activities play an important role in the lives of the elderly. The elderly leisure activities have profound meaning in cultural values. The present study consisted of seven chapters. Chapter one introduced the motivation and the purpose of the study. Chapter two aimed to investigate the changes of the elderly populations in the increasing numbers of the aging populations in the world. The theory of aging was reviewed to understand the self in human development. Chapter three explored the theories of the elderly leisure activities and noted the meaning and categories of leisure activities to understand the different types of leisure activities the elderly participates in. Chapter four examined the government’s policy-making and its service to the elderly, and the elderly participation in their leisure activities. The government’s care-giving service to the elderly was discussed. Under the welfare system, our government has provided our citizens and the elderly with economic security. Chapter five investigated the relationship between leisure activities and life satisfaction. Factors such as behavior and social background also affect the elderly participation and the function of leisure activities. Chapter six analyzed the results of leisure activities’ questionnaires conducted by Department of Health, ROC in 1996. The chapter six also discussed the elderly participation in all kinds of activities, the relationship between ages and activities’ participation, and the factors influencing the elderly participation in leisure activities. Chapter seven concluded with the implications of the study and suggestions for future research. The following suggestions were presented below: 1. Helping the elderly build the correct ideas of having leisure activities 2. Enhancing the living standards of leisure activities for the elderly 3. Planning a good environment for the elderly leisure activities 4. The government makes the most of annual tax incomes to provide the elderly with a good and safe facilities of leisure activities 5. Integrating civil resources nationwide and to train professionals to help the elderly develop leisure activities 6. The elderly leisure activities should increase their cultural exchanges with other countries in the world in order to enhance the quality of leisure activities for the elderly in our country. In all, the present study aimed to increase an understanding of the elderly and their participation of leisure activities. The study reviewed the literature and then explored the elderly leisure activities in order to help guide the elderly enjoy their leisure activities by engaging them to participate in and to adjust themselves well in their leisure activities. Therefore, the elderly can be well-prepared for their aging to better and enjoy their life.
