[[alternative]]A Study of Pre-Engineering Technology Education Curriculum for Senior High School

[[abstract]]The purpose of this study was to explore senior-high-school living technology teachers’ perception on a planned pre-engineering technology education curriculum. A planned pre-engineering curriculum was firstly drafted, and then a questionnaire was mailed to 110 living technology teachers. Finally, 77 valid questionnaires were obtained and led to the return rate 70%. The following conclusions were made: (1) Living technology teachers accept the pre-engineering technology education, constructed by this study. (2) The pre-engineering technology education curriculum may be offered in grade 10 or 11. (3) The future teachers of pre-engineering technology education curriculum should demonstrate the knowledge and skills regarding engineering, and be not limited to living technology teachers. (4) The pre-engineering technology education curriculum could be a selected course. (5) The living technology teachers do not want to teach pre-engineering technology education curriculum in present living technology laboratories. (6) The pre-engineering technology education curriculum could be last two semesters and award its students four semester credits. (7) Teacher’s gender, teaching experience and educational background do not affect his/her extent of acceptance on the framework of this curriculum. (8) The curriculum content, constructed by the study, needs a further research and planning. (9) The framework of this curriculum should be adapted to meet school needs. (10) Teacher’s educational background and school location do not affect his/her extent of acceptance on the implementation measures of pre-engineering technology education curriculum. (11) Teacher’s competencies identified by this study need a further research and planning. (12) The implementation measures of pre-engineering technology education curriculum should concern teacher’s engineering education experiences. (13) The major possible difficulties to implement pre-engineering technology education curriculum are poor teaching environment (equipment), the teacher’s lack engineering knowledge and low student’s motivation to take this course. (14) The name of possible pre-engineering technology education curriculum could be “ Engineering Design. ”
