A. TREATY BETWEEN TELOS AND RHODOS A fragmentary stele found on the acropolis of Telos bears the beginning of a decree of the synedroi of Telos making a treaty with Rhodos. The terms of this treaty ( as far as they are preserved ) are very close to those of the one between Rhodos and Hierapytna (Inscr. Cret. Ill p. 31 - 38) but of a shorter form. From a combined examination of the letter type with the historical circumstances the inscription is dated very soon after 300 B.C. Despite the fact that this is apparently a treaty between two equal states, it is obvious that by accepting its terms Telos is being entering under the immediate supervision of Rhodos accepting to follow the same attitude with the then prospering state in worl...
