There are significant racial disparities in our criminal justice system and increasing evidence that implicit racial bias impacts legal decision making, both in real world settings and mock-juror studies. Experts in the field have suggested that specific education and training can reduce the impact of implicit bias on decision making. Specifically, interactive training that emphases and demonstrates individuals’ own experience of implicit biases, such as the Implicit Association Test (IAT) may help to increase awareness of biased decision-making and change behavior.
