The agricultural co-operatives in the Netherlands have always had difficult problems. It often happened that the co-operatives were beneficial to farmers, because the prices of the products sold were higher and of the products bought lower.The agricultural co-operatives are non-profit-making organizations. The author stressed the point that there could also be serious disadvantages to this status. Other firms and corporations were more aggressive, and were more oriented to technical progress and the introduction of new products.It was found that the supply co-operative in particular had to concentrate on the buying of products; it seemed to be possible to combine this business with banking, but not with the selling of products.
