This work includes various biopolymers used in the production of food packaging such as: polysaccharides, proteins, lipids, etc. It begins with the definition and classification of polymers with a special emphasis on the process of degradation of these as an alternative solution to the environmental problem caused by the indiscriminate use of plastics. It also sets out the different types of biopolymers used in the production of containers are given on the advantages and disadvantages of such materials, as well as some trends and innovations in the use of biopolymers.</p
