CGIAR 1987 Financial Report

Annual report issued by the CGIAR Secretariat to inform all participants in the System of developments in the financing of activities.The report summary follows: The CGIAR system continued to benefit from the weakening of the US dollar for the second year in a row. Core contributions rose by $ 9.4 million to reach $ 201.6 million in 1987. While the weak dollar put upward pressure on spending in several centers, the system as a whole benefited from low rates of cost increases. Inflationary pressures remained in check in industrialized countries and this was reflected in modest salary increases, measured in dollars in most host countries were moderated by the on-going programs of devaluation. Overall, in 1987 inflationary cost increases are estimated to have been 4 percent as compared with 6 percent in the past three years.
