Mobiles find right price for farmers, BBC, October 2002 Browsing web pages using a mobile phone is catching on among market traders in Senegal. Ordinarily farmers have no way of finding out prices before they travel to market, or even if their crop is in short supply at a particular place. Often middlemen take advantage of this ignorance and buy at low prices. Manobi, a joint venture run by French and Senegalese entrepreneurs, gathers information on the prices of foods being sold in markets in and around Dakar, and uploads them to its central database using mobile phones.
