This document presents the report commissioned to look into the potential for diversification into alternative banana products, with particular reference to the Windward Islands and Jamaica. The first task was to review what diversification measures were already in place and to assess the extent to which they were successful, both in terms of environmental suitability and sustainability. In the final analysis the conclusions drawn were that the alternative products proposed could not sustain the banana industry in the Windward Islands and that a diversification strategy should be two pronged.
