Cocoa pests and diseases

The history of cocoa production in most regions is one of a valuable crop devastated by diseases and pests. Many crops when planted outside their centre-of-origin remain relatively free of pests and diseases. Cocoa is different: wherever it has been planted it has picked up many destructive, new-encounter pests and diseases which have often been the main factors limiting production.'
