The safe use of pesticides

This manual has been prepared to provide practical and appropriate instruction in safe handling techniques for all those who work with pesticides in the sugar industry. However, the manual is well written and illustrated and the practical advice and recommendations are not just specific to the sugar industry alone. The manual begins with an explanation of pesticide formulations and toxicity, touches on pesticide registration, and repackaging and labelling and then goes on to give advice on storage of pesticides and fertilizers, safe transportation, planning and preparation for use, working with pesticides including personal protection and application in the field and safe disposal. The final section of the manual deals with advice on pesticide record keeping, how to monitor and keep health records of those using pesticides regularly, and details of first aid treatment for cases of chemical poisoning. This guide would be useful anyone involved in use, storage or transportation of pesticides or for those involved in an advisory or teaching capacity on their safe use.
