2020 vision

In the next decade or so drastic changes will be taking place in traditional, well-known national science and research systems. Regional and interregional cooperation, with its limitations, is unlikely to survive in its traditional forms. Countries need to prepare for the future in order to reduce hardship and shorten the transformation to fully integrated economic and scientific systems. Very few people have been as deeply involved in agricultural research at international level as the former directors-general and other leaders in the CGIAR system who have contributed to A globalization of science: the place of agricultural research. This book is a collection of short papers presenting a vision for the next few decades of global agricultural research. Some of the major issues are discussed and the priorities and structures that would be required to implement changes are presented. The book is therefore likely to be of interest to scientists and researchers, politicians and managers.
