Several laboratories in Africa have started production of vaccine against 'peste des petits ruminants' also known as pseudo-rinderpest. In the last year, production units and marketing facilities have been set up in laboratories in Botswana, Cameroon, Ethiopia and Mali. The foundation stock, extracted from a virus grown in vitro on cell tissue, has been lodged at PANVAC (Pan-African Veterinary Vaccine Centre) in Ethiopia, from where it is supplied, under the authority of the FAO, to requesting laboratories.
