The Jamaican agriculture and livestock sector should soon be benefiting from a new Research Centre, and a Demonstration and Training Centre (DTC), set up to help farmers and marketers in the local sheep and goat industry which, according to the Caribbean Agricultural Research and Development Institute (CARDI), can compete in the regional market without recourse to government aid. The centres are geared towards increasing production of high quality breeding stock and improving preparation and presentation of choice cuts of meat; this, in turn, will give consumers in the region a better choice of superior meat products.
