The Biological Nitrogen Fixation Electronic Network (BNFNET) was established in 1990 by the United Nations Educational Social and Cultural Organization's (UNESCO) Microbial Resource Centre (MIRCEN), for laboratories and people who have a professional interest in biological nitrogen fixation (BNF). Members of BNFNET-MIRCEN primarily use computers to communicate with each other by electronic mail (e-mail). This has become a very popular method of communication as It provides an inexpensive and quick way for scientists in different parts of the world to communicate.
