Researchers at the International Council for Research on Agroforestry (ICRAF) have developed a computerized model - SCUAF - to evaluate the effects on soil quality of agroforestry operations in specific environments. It also enables comparisons to be made between such systems and other land uses. This new tool will allow the choice of the best agroforestry combinations to test, knowing in advance the effects that they will have on organic matter content and erosion. The model also indicates the kind of data or other information that is needed to improve the accuracy of its projections. For more details, contact: A. Young, P. Murava or R.J. Cheatle ICRAF P.O.
