Initial and peak milk yield, days to peak milk yield and persistency index (PI) of indigenous and crossbred cows were determined to characterized their lactation curve. The study was based on existing data in the Bako Agricultural Research Center and Debre Zeit Research Station. The overall mean initial and peak milk yield, days to peak and PI were 5.5 ± 0.07 kg, 8.2 ± 0.17 kg, 44.0 ± 1.17 days and 86.2 ± 0.70 %, respectively. Crossbred cows had significantly (p < 0.001) higher initial and peak milk yield and longer days to peak than the indigenous breeds.
