Changes in precipitation patterns were expected to have strong impacts on temperate ecosystem dynamics. North China has experienced opposite trends of precipitation change (increased in the west and decreased in the east) in the past several decades. Under such a background, we analysed mean growing season (GS) (April-October) grass Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) changes using combined dataset of Global Inventory, Monitoring, and Modelling Studies and Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer NDVI in North China during 1982-2011.
