National audienceA new Compressible Packing Model (CPM), the 4-parameter CPM, was developed to predict the packing density of binary mixtures depending on their composition. The wall effect is taken into account by calculating the local packing density into a layer of fine spherical particles located against the wall of a coarse particle. When the diameter of the latter tends towards infinity, the result consists in a geometrical model for quantifying the effect of a smooth plane wall on a partially ordered packing of beads.
