In a liquid metal contained by walls, the interaction of a magnetic field and an electrical current, which are perpendicular to each other, generates a pressure gradient which is opposed to the electromagnetic force. Thus, any inclusion immersed in this metal undergoes a force whose intensity is a function of its shape. This mechanism can be exploited to continuously extract the impurities from metals and foundry alloys during their casting.
