Utilization of sapphire for various applications is significant. Massive crystal growth methods do not allow the production of the sapphire single crystals in the complex forms necessary for the applications. These particular geometries can be obtained by the shaped crystal growth techniques. However, the crystals obtained by these methods are characterized by the presence of gas micro bubbles. Among the assumptions relating to the origins of gas bubbles there is the thermal decomposition of molten alumina, the reaction between the molten alumina and the crucible, the initially dissolved gas in the raw material, the growth atmosphere, the influence of the graphite devices, the influence of the material used for the manufacture of the crucib...
