The electrical conduction at high fields of 100 kV / cm <E <500 kV / cm) between metal electrodes in propylene carbonate, a highly polar liquid, is due to the creation of negative ions at the cathode. Taking into account the electrohydrodynamic effects, it is verified that the influence of the parameters intervening (inter-electrode distance, resistivity, nature of the metal, temperature) is in accordance with that provided by a model of electrochemical reactions taking place in the compact layer.
