ETUDE DE LA CONDUCTION ELECTRIQUE DANS UN LIQUIDE FORTEMENT POLAIRE ET DE GRANDE RESISTIVITE, LE CARBONATE DE PROPYLENE

The electrical conduction at high fields of 100 kV / cm <E <500 kV / cm) between metal electrodes in propylene carbonate, a highly polar liquid, is due to the creation of negative ions at the cathode. Taking into account the electrohydrodynamic effects, it is verified that the influence of the parameters intervening (inter-electrode distance, resistivity, nature of the metal, temperature) is in accordance with that provided by a model of electrochemical reactions taking place in the compact layer. From the measurements, an evaluation of the thickness and the absolute height of the potential barrier is deduced.At low fields (0.1 kV / cm <E <100 kV / cm) the stationary currents result from the presence of dissolved electralytes and electrochemical reactions at the interfaces The transient currents are due to the displacement of the positive diffuse layer from the anode to the cathode.La conduction électrique aux champs forts 100 kV/cm < E < 500 kV/cm ), entre électrodes métalliques dans le carbonate de propylène, liquide fortement polaire, est due à une création d'ions négatifs à la cathode. En tenant compte des effets électrohydrodynamiques, on vérifie que l'influence des paramètres intervenant ( distance inter-électrode, résistivité, nature du métal, température ) est conforme à celle prévue par un modèle de réactions électrochimiques ayant lieu dans la couche compacte. On déduit des mesures une évaluation de l'épaisseur et de la hauteur absolue de la barrière de potentiel.Aux champs faibles ( 0,1 kV/cm < E < 100 kV/cm } les courants stationnaires résultent de la présence d'électralytes dissous et de réactions électrochimiques aux interfaces. Les courants transitoires sont dus au déplacement de la couche diffuse positive de l'anode à la cathode
