Dysfunctional mitochondrial quality control and inflammation are hallmarks of aging and are involved in the pathogenesis of muscle wasting disorders, including sarcopenia and cachexia. One of the consequences of failing mitochondrial quality control is the release of mitochondria-derived damage-associated molecular patterns.
