This is a gender study that examines the work and living possebilities of the men and women who worked at Sundbys psychiatric hospital between the years 1922-1936. I have chosen those particular years becasue of the location of the psychiatric hospitital. Syndby psychiatric hospital was constructed in 1922 on the isle Tosterön outside the community of Strängnäs. Until year 1936 the hospital was quite isolated from the rest of the community. This seems to have led to the creation of a community of its own. The fockus for my study lies in how men and women interacted with this community.
