Hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS) is the most common so called univentricular congenital heart defect. Despite advances in treatment, HLHS is still associated with significant morbidity and mortality. Myocardial dysfunction is a known risk factor for morbidity and mortality in HLHS patients throughout the treatment protocol. The etiology of myocardial dysfunction in HLHS is still poorly understood. The aims of this study were to evaluate advanced echocardiographic functional methods and to utilize them in the follow-up of patients with HLHS. In methodological studies, advanced echocardiographic methods were compared to magnetic resonance imaging in 51 HLHS infants and children at different phases of treatment protocol. All parameters ...
