Ethics in Restoration and a New Dimension in the Conservation of Structural Monuments

The contribution refers to the close relationship, reflected by Ivo Hlobil, between the foundation of the Czech (Czechoslovak) School of Restoration (Vincenc Kramář, Bohuslav Slánský in the 30s of the 20th century) and its new theory and ethics in restoration and so-called synthetic method of care of historic architecture, implemented by Václav Wagner in the 40s of the past century. The heritage of these principals in the field of architecture of the past 20 years, after a period of insensitivity and a great decline, returned to life in the exemplary conservation treatments under the leadership of architect Václav Girsa. Five of them have already received international favourable response and have been given EU Prize for Cultural Heritage / Europa Nostra Awards
