This article is focused on the issue of failed states and their transition toward the security realm as a result of securitization that occurred in the USA in the wake of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The main aim of the article is to point out how failed states have been transferred into the security discourse after the 9/11. We will explore whether the link between state failure and terrorist groups forms sufficient grounds for the legitimization of extraordinary measures, such as the illiberal policy of the Bush administration that culminated in the invasion of Iraq.
