Det är användarna det handlar om, inte böckerna : En studie om hur nya bibliotekarier ser på sitt yrke

The purpose of this study has been to find out how newly employed librarians experience the library profession in relation to the head of department's view. The questions my study is based on are as follows: What is newly employed librarians view of their occupational role, professional identity and library studies? Which librarian identity is most prominent among my informants? How do the informants feel that the job prospects look like? The method for the study has been semi-structured interviews with five public librarians and two library department heads. The result has shown a relatively homogeneous group when it comes to values and perception of both education and professional roles. Based on the Danish researcher Anders Ørom's theories about the various librarian identities, I have analyzed the answers of my informants. The results showed that the informants could distinguish several of the identities. All informants agreed that social skills are essential and central to the professional role, but the heads of departments testify to the difficulty of finding librarians that are enthusiastic and with the social skills that public libraries today need in the intermediary work with users
