National audienceSuperplasticity is observed in silicon for temperatures ranging between 1500 and 1600 ○C in damage resistant materials with a submicron grain size. The microstructure evolves rapidly in the temperature range. This study shows that it is an advantage to start with an α-Si3N4 rich ceramic in order to derive benefit from both the equiaxed α-grain shape and the transient liquid phase that forms during deformation at an intermediate stage of the α↦β transformation.
