TEACHING ARABIC LANGUAGE THROUGH MULTI-MEDIA (Best Practices from Universitas Ahmad Dahlan)

This study investigates the effects of multi-media such as internet, video, and computer to teach Arabic conversation to students at Faculty of Education and Islamic Studies, Universitas Ahmad Dahlan. The use of multi-media is to stimulate the students to be active on Arabic conversation. The students are required to make a video on Arabic conversation with various topics based on their own creativity. The task is a home work that should be done outside the class and in a group. Each group consists of four to five students. In average, the videos show that the students are able to speak in Arabic more confident and very interactive. For final exam, the method is oral exam that the students should speak in Arabic directly as well as they can. However, the results show that the students are more active in videos rather than in real conversation. Therefore, to enhance student’s ability and confidence on Arabic conversations, they are encouraged to use multi-media frequently
