The slipping of the equine foot at the moment of impact during high-speed locomotion is known to be a common cause of soft-tissue injury. Show-jumpers are reported to require a small amount of slide as they land; this suggests the amount of slide has a narrow safety margin in order to prevent injury. The aim of the study was to compare hoof slide on two different artificial surfaces and investigate relationships between hoof slide and surface properties.
