Very low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (VLDL-C), via binding very low-density lipoprotein receptor (VLDLR), can induce the development of atherosclerosis. Besides monocytes, VLDLR expression is detected in various peripheral white blood cells (WBCs), yet its underlying role remains unclear.
