Les formations universitaires en urbanisme en France : un nouveau gouvernement des corps (de métiers)

International audience"More than any other discipline, urbanism interacts with the world which it makes intelligible by its knowledge, and apprehendable by its formations. However, the issues that govern urban developments have changed in nature and scope. We show how teachings in urban planning, mainly in master’s degree, have moved away from analytical perspectives and critical orientations, which are today more important than ever. Over the last thirty years, these trainings courses have experienced a real twist, which the competitive climate for the recognition of diplomas cannot explain. To date they comprise a specialized technical field, between profession repositories and standardization of careers, between the federation of Instituts d’urbanisme and the standardization of knowledge by the CNU. The articulation between pluridisciplinarity and practical knowledge, structured in the 1970s and 1980s around remarked thoughts, has generally substituted another couple, both as a position and a process of formation: the action of hyper-urbanism (based on urban factory processes and their management), technical know-how and their developmental position (based on projects and their instruments). By this twist, the current of urban studies has developed very little in France (although very widely deployed abroad). Nous montrons comment les formations en urbanisme, principalement en master, se sont écartées de perspectives analytiques et d’orientations critiques, pourtant à ce jour plus que requises.Ces formations ont connu sur les trente dernières années une véritable torsion, que le climat concurrentiel pour la reconnaissance des diplômes ne saurait expliquer. Elles composent à ce jour un champ technique spécialisé, entre référentiels de métiers et normalisation des carrières, entre fédération des instituts de formation et normalisation des savoirs par le CNU.A l’articulation entre pluridisciplinarité et savoirs pratiques, structurée dans les années 1970 et 1980 autour de pensées remarquées, s’est globalement substitué un autre couple, à la fois comme position et processus de formation : l’agir de l’hyper-urbanisme et son entendement actionniste (fondé sur les processus de fabrication et leur management), les savoir-faire techniques et leur position développementaliste (fondée sur les projets et leurs instruments).Par cette torsion, non seulement le courant des études urbaines (pourtant très largement déployé à l’étranger) s’est fort peu développé en France. Plus encore, par cette torsion, les formations en urbanisme demeurent frappées d’un large impensé socio-écologique
