Factors Associated with Implementation Handwashing in Third and Fourth Grades 21st State Elementary School in Talang Kelapa, District of Banyuasin in 2012

Background : Public Health Development Index (IPKM) 2010 showed the percentage of PHBS(healthy and clean living behavior) in the national average 35.7%. While the average for the CTPS(hand washing with soap) was only 24.5%. The incidence rate of diarrhea can be prevented by custom PHBS and CTPS. A review of morbidity of diarrhea in the community who made ​​MoH RI showed incidences of diarrhea at age 5-9 years to reach an average 190 per 1,000 inhabitants, while the average age of 10-14 reached 170 per 1,000 inhabitants (Sahlan, 2012). Method : A survey research with a cross-sectional design was implemented. Ninety six students of third and fourth grades of the 21st State Elementary School Number in district of Banyuasin were selected. Result : The application of CTPS was respectively related to knowledge (p value: 0.000), attitude (p value: 0.000), availability of CTPS (p value: 0.000), and the role of parents (p value : 0.000). Conclusion : It is recommended that first, health centers may improve the provision of information and benefits of PHBS and CTPS. Second, teachers may enhance the motivation and reward for doing CTPS and provide a mean of CTPS. Third, parents may encourage children to do the CTPS
