The paper is about the communication between a grandmother and her grandchild, who lost their son and father. The support from the granddaugheter to her grandmother is focused. The granddaughter's imagination and fantasies helped her grandmother to have some breaks in her greif. In her granddaughter the grandmother had an attentive listener, when talking about her son. Rituals were established in challenging situations, eg visiting the grave, by the granddaughter. The grandmother felt that the family bonds were strengthened by her granddaughter
