The thesis entitled Proust and Plato is mainly based on the affinities between the two great figures of universal scope. Although there is a significant time gap between them, we have tried to develop an approximation in three distinct parts. The first part is devoted to etymology and philosophy of language, namely the effort of Proust and Plato to establish the correctness of the name against the thing it represents. At first, we put the language at the epicenter of our analysis, in an effort to locate the various tendencies, –cratylism, hermogenism, naturalism, conventionalism –, in a critical dialogue: the Cratylus.
