Despite the correct and frequent application of cleaning & disinfection (C&D), Listeria monocytogenes has the ability to adhere to and persist on surfaces in food processing plants for long periods. Consequently, L. monocytogenes may be responsible for cross-contamination of food through contact with contaminated surfaces.
