Alkene hydrogenation is a key in many bulk and fine chemicals production processes. Major efforts were therefore directed towards the preparation of ever more productive and selective catalysts. Among the large number of homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysts, promising Iridium (I) organometallic complexes were prepared since the discovery of the well-known Crabtree’s catalyst, [Ir(COD)(py)(PCy3)]BF4, to address selectivity issues in homogeneous asymmetric hydrogenation or hydrogenation of highly hindered tetrasubstituted olefins.
