Adaption of Global Architectural Trends to the Local Climatic Conditions

The inclusion of local climatic and environmental conditions into architectural design process becomes increasingly important, when we are thinking about the global climate change and environmental problems. Architectural design relevant to the local environment involves not only the inclusion of an artistic and aesthetic context, but also the creation of architecture solutions adjusted to the local climate, adjustment of global architectural trends to the local nature and climatic conditions. That’s why the creation of climate-responsive architecture and adaption of global architectural trends to a local climate are of big importance today. Traditional folk buildings are being characterized by application of knowledge gained from the wisdom of the ages in the creation of living environment adjusted to the local climatic and environmental conditions. Buildings usually are fitted into the relief of the terrain, the direction of winds is taken into account, and the roof form and other architectural elements are typical for the cold climate zone, etc. This paper reviews lessons we can learn from the historical architecture, to create buildings relevant to global architectural trends, but also suitable for the local environment
