B.F. Berry 204981

The “B.F. Berry” was built in 1908 by the American Ship Building Co., of Lorain, Ohio. The steel propeller vessel experienced numerous ownership and name changes. From 1908 until 1915, she was owned by the Fremont Steamship Co. (Herbert K. Oakes, Mgr.), of Detroit, Michigan. In 1915, ownership transferred to Franklin Steamship Co. (Herbert K. Oakes, Mgr.), of Cleveland, OH. They owned her until 1922, when she was sold to Matthews Steamship Co., Ltd., of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. While under their ownership, she was renamed “Berryton” and registered as Canadian vessel number 141676. Frederick C. Clarkson (Receiver) (Toronto Elevators, Ltd., Mgr.), also of Toronto, purchased the vessel in 1932 and owned her for one year. In 1933, Colonial Steamship, Ltd. (R. Scott Misener, Mgr.) of Port Colborne, Ont. owned the vessel. She was renamed ”Viscount Bennett” in 1942, and as “C.A. Bennett” in 1954. She was sold again in 1959 to Scott Misner Steamships, Ltd., St. Catharines, Ont.; they maintained ownership until 1968. The vessel was sold again in 1968 to Marine Salvage, Ltd., of Port Colborne, Ont., and again to Desguaces y Recuperaciones del Sur “Emiliano Alonse Castrillo” for scrapping in Spain. She arrived in Spain on August 29, 1969, and demolition began upon arrival
