Abstract

The “Beaver Islander” was built in 1962 by the Sturgeon Bay Shipbuilding & Dry Dock Co. in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. After completion, ownership was acquired by the Beaver Island Boat Co. of St. James, Michigan. The steel propeller vessel ferried passengers and automobiles on Lake Michigan between Beaver Island and Charlevoix, MI. She accommodated up to 150 passengers and twelve vehicles, or 300 passengers without any vehicles onboard. From April 1st to December 31st, she ran the thirty-two mile voyage in approximately two hours. Unfortunately, the disposition information about the vessel is unknown
