OBJECTIVES: To investigate the exclusion from trials of women, older people and minority ethnic groups, focusing on two drug exemplars, statins and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). DATA SOURCES: Medical and ethical databases. Workshops with stakeholders. REVIEW METHODS: Literature was reviewed on exclusions in healthcare research and three workshops were held with stakeholders.
