The purpose of this research is to analyze the existentialist aspect of a beautiful novel by J.R.R. Tolkien The Hobbit. With the problem formulation of the character that chooses his choice to be free and responsible for what he chooses. All the data are obtained entirely from the novel. The novel also describes the existentialism and the main character - Bilbo Baggins - a hobbit who has uniqueness because his character is unpredictable from other characters. As a hobbit, he should not have adventure but his life is changed after he chooses to have journey for adventure. The choice comes from Gandalf's suggestion, his wizard friend.
