It is well accepted among the power system community that the load model has an important impact on the stability studies of power systems. In this paper, we study the sensitivity of the small disturbance angular stability of power systems to the behaviour of load response. A transfer function representation of loads is developed from the linearization of the composite load models and dynamics of the loads are characterized by the frequency, damping and recovery time constant of this load model. The sensitivity studies of this paper show that poorly damped oscillations of the load, with a frequency close to the oscillation frequency of the inter-area modes, could detrimentally influence the damping of the system.link_to_subscribed_fulltex
